Hearth Bread

A great every day bread that can be prepared in minutes.
Ingredients -
2 cups Flour
1/2 teaspoon Salt
1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
handful of Sugar
3 to 4 tablespoons Butter
1 Egg
3/4 cup Sour Milk
 
Preparation:

1. Add flour, salt, baking soda, and sugar and butter to large bowl.

2. Stir in egg and sour milk.

3. Mix well with wooden spoon.

4. Place dough onto lightly floured surface. Shape into loaf. Place into 8 x 4 x 2-inch loaf pan.

5. Preheat oven to 350 F.

6. Bake 25 minutes.

Water is the primary liquid used in baking, although milk, soured milk, buttermilk, and beer among other liquids are used to add different flavors and textures.

Sour Milk
To make 1-cup of sour milk, bring the milk to room temperature, add 1-tablespoon white vinegar to the milk and let set until the milk begins to curdle. Use immediately. Do not save leftovers.
